چکیده

After the devastation caused by two weeks of torrential rain in Venezuela in the second half of December 1999, it is estimated that up to 50,000 people have died in floods and landslides; a further 200,000 people have been left homeless as whole towns along the Caribbean coast have been washed away [1]. Concerned about the dramatic extent of this human tragedy, PRIVATEERS N.V. has immediately offered its support to Venezuela. Supported by CNES and the European Space Agency (ESA) who provided the sets of SPOT and ERS SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images acquired before and after the disaster, this project aims to the provision of cartographic maps designed to assess the situation and to help with the rehabilitation of the country. These maps are designed to be easily exploitable by local photo-interpreters.

Insar analysis of the effects of the Izmit earthquake with ERS data

After the 17/08/99 earthquake in Turkey, ESA and CNES decided to coordinate their efforts for the emergency study of the earthquake effects based on satellite observations (ERS, SPOT). In particular, a set of archived ERS acquisitions over the interested sites was promptly provided by ESA, a series of tandem acquisitions were programmed (ERS-1 was switched on over Turkey) and the acquired post-...

Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) of dry snow derived from InSAR -theory and results from ERS Tandem SAR data

In case of dry snow, only small changes (cm) in snow depth between two images pairs significantly increases the error in DEM generation due to the disturbance of the phase property, although no effects are observed on the coherence. Thus, the degree of coherence is not a sufficient parameter for estimating the expected error in DEM generation for snow covered areas. However, the phase disturban...

Investigating spatial changes of soil moisture after heavy spring rains, Fars province

Soil moisture is an important variable in climatic, hydrological, and ecological systems that link atmospheric processes to the earth's surface. The rainfall systems of the water year 2017-2018 abnormally caused more than normal rainfall in Fars province and caused major changes in the surface moisture of the soil. The purpose of this research is to analyze the spatial changes of soil moisture ...

D-InSAR Research at IIT Bombay - Simulation Experiments Synchronous with ERS 1/2 Tandem Passes

During tandem period of ERS-1/2 (April June 1996), field experiments were conducted in Bhavnagar test site with Corner Reflectors (CRs) to study the sensitivity of differential SAR interferometry to estimate the movements of CRs. Initially, three images acquired on April 4, 5 and May 9, 1996 were processed to generate interferograms. Using single interferogram formed with April 4 and May 9, dur...
